Conquering Winter's Fury: How Sibom Powered Snow Blowers Keep Roads Safe and Clear

Conquering Winter's Fury: How Sibom Powered Snow Blowers Keep Roads Safe and Clear

In winter, much of Canada experiences a snowfall season lasting 4 to 6 months each year. In certain regions, such as parts of Yukon and the Northwest Territories, the snowfall season can even extend up to 8 months.

In these regions, several significant snowfalls occur each year, and some areas even experience snowstorms severe enough to disrupt transportation. Snow accumulation on the roads poses substantial challenges to transportation and daily life.

In previous articles, we discussed how snow removal on roads is primarily done using equipment like snow brushes. However, these machines have a major drawback—they cannot completely clear the snow from the road surface. Snowplows, which rely mainly on vehicle momentum to push snow, also have limitations. Firstly, vehicle traction decreases on snow-covered roads, reducing momentum. Additionally, in many situations, simply pushing snow to one side is insufficient, and wider roads require multiple passes to be cleared. Standard snow blowers are generally inefficient and are not suited for handling heavy snowfall.

So, how should we deal with the road when it is completely covered by heavy snow during a snowstorm?

Therefore, we need a large, specialized snow blower to handle heavy snowfall during severe weather conditions.

The Sibom self-powered snow blower is a set of throw-type snow clearing equipment developed by the Central Research Institute. It is a large snow removal machine that includes its own power and transmission systems. The overall setup also consists of a snow collection system, a snow throwing system, and a control system. Now, let’s take a closer look at this 'powerful thrower'!

1. Power System

The Sibom self-powered snow blower is driven by a powerful imported Cummins engine (242kw@2100rpm), featuring water cooling, direct injection, and turbocharging to deliver impressive operational power.

Especially with its cold start capability, the Sibom snow blower can operate in temperatures as low as -35°C. Whether in snow-covered highlands (at altitudes of 4500 meters) or in China's 'Cold Extreme' — Genhe City in Inner Mongolia — it can perform impressively. This feature ensures the reliability and safety of the equipment, even in harsh, freezing environments, guaranteeing its operational performance.

2. Transmission System

The Sibom snow blower is equipped with a high-power gear reducer, an oil-bath chain drive system, a high-torque universal coupling, and a gear steering box with high load-bearing capacity. These components can withstand heavy loads and reliably transmit large torque and motion, ensuring high transmission accuracy, low noise, and improved overall performance. This setup was determined through testing and based on actual user requirements, as well as considerations to enhance cost-effectiveness.

3. Snow Collection System

The snow blower is equipped with a high-strength, spiral dual auger structure (milling snow collector) inside. This structure shreds the snow and uses the upward and downward spiraling action of the augers to concentrate the snow particles towards the snow intake. Under the pressure differential created by the high-speed rotation of the snow impeller, the snow is forcibly sucked into the rotor chamber and continuously ejected through the snow chute.

4. Snow Throwing System

The streamlined snow chute is driven by a hydraulic motor, offering high torque and excellent stability. As the main snow discharge guide, it can rotate 300° horizontally to meet snow throwing requirements in forward, left, and right directions. The upper part of the snow chute is equipped with a snow deflector, which can adjust the angle of the discharge, allowing for control over the throwing distance.

The snow chute is equipped with a lifting mechanism, which can raise the chute by 17.71 inch under the action of a hydraulic cylinder. This feature not only increases the snow throwing distance but also elevates the height for loading, providing greater flexibility and efficiency during operation.

One standout feature of the Sibom 'Powerful Throw' snow blower is its side-throw function. The snow chute can be adjusted to throw snow up to 60° on either side, with a maximum throwing distance of 45 meters. This capability is especially useful for long-distance snow throwing, making it ideal for challenging work conditions where snow needs to be moved far from the operation area.

5. Control System

The snow blower is operated through a control box, which is equipped with an electronic display. This system can be placed inside the operator's cabin, allowing the driver to manage all the functions of the snow blower from the comfort of the cabin. With just a single button, the operator can control the elevation and lowering of the snow chute, adjust the angle and retraction of the snow cover, tilt and straighten the snow chute, rotate the chute horizontally, adjust the side-throw direction, and engage or disengage the clutch. This intuitive control system ensures seamless operation and enhances efficiency during snow removal.

The Sibom powered snow blower can clear over 2,800 tons of snow per hour. It also allows for adjustments to the snow discharge trajectory and distance based on different operational requirements. The speed and distance of snow discharge can be fine-tuned according to the snow volume, ensuring efficient performance tailored to the specific conditions.

The bottom of the Sibom powered snow blower is equipped with high-strength, wear-resistant steel plates. These plates are durable, ensuring longevity without damaging the road surface. They are bolted in place, making replacements easy and convenient when needed.

The Sibom powered snow blower does not require external power sources; it only needs a 5T loader as the towing vehicle, with no need for vehicle modifications or additional wiring. Despite having its own power system, the design of the Sibom powered snow blower is not complex. Its compact size and reasonable weight ensure safety, reliability, and ease of installation and maintenance.

The Sibom powered snow blower operates at high speeds, greatly enhancing its efficiency. It is primarily used during heavy snowfall in winter to ensure smooth road traffic. This machine is suitable for snow removal on highways, forest roads, airport runways, scenic area roads, and urban streets for snow loading operations. Thanks to its high snow removal efficiency, it can quickly clear even wide roads, making it an ideal snow removal machine that meets the needs for fast snow clearance.

Brave the snowstorm, and warm people's hearts! The Sibom powered snow blower, along with other snow removal equipment, stands as a heartwarming sight amidst the heavy snow, undaunted by the cold and the storm.
